Leah Remini: Katie Holmes 'Had to Protect' Suri from Scientology

By Jason Marshall

ABC's love affair with Leah Remini and her exit from the Church of Scientology continues today as the internet tries to absorb the seemingly endless barrage of information coming out of the actresses new book, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology

And while Dish Nation has a roundup of some of the better exerpts from the tell-all, it's what Leah has to say about Katie Holmes and her daughter with Tom Cruise that has our attention.

“I know now she did what she did, leaving in the way that she did, because she had to protect her daughter [Suri Cruise], which, in a way, connects us now,” says Remini in her latest interview with Good Morning America

She is, of course, referring to Holmes' 2012 decision to divorce Cruise and leave the controversial religion under cloak and dagger

That story echoes Leah's decision to protect her own daughter and leave the church

Holmes released a public apology last week, after a clip was released from The King of Queens star's 20/20 interview - in which she described a strained relationship with the Batman Begins actress.

“I regret having upset Leah in the past and wish her only the best in the future," said Katie simply.

Family roles play a large part of the book that prompted these interviews, as Nicole Kidman might know well enough.

In Troublemaker, Remini tells an anecdote about the Mission Impossible star's second wife and her strained relationship with hers and Cruise's adopted children.

"Not if I have a choice," Bella Cruise allegedly told Leah in response to a question about spending time with her famous mother. "Our mom is a f*****g SP," she elaborates.

In Scientology speak, that means Nicole has been labeled a "suppressive person" - a pariah of sorts.
