Will Smith's Cheating Ex-Girlfriend Inspired His Career

By Jason Marshall

Most people aren't thrilled when their significant other cheats on them, but the experience does tend to help a lot move onward and upward in their lives.

ADOPTION SCANDAL: Chris Rock's Baby Mama Drama

Apparently that's true for Will Smith, who credits an unfaithful ex-girlfriend for inspiring him to become a household name.

"When I was 15, my girlfriend cheated on me," Smith told Variety during a taped, "Actors on Actors" conversation with Benicio del Toro (of all people).

"And from that moment, in this bizarre psychological twist, I wanted to be the most famous entertainer on Earth."

Unfortunately for us, Will - who's been married to Jada Pinkett-Smith for almost 18 years - doesn't drop the name of his filandering former flame.

It seems, though, that she gave the 47-year-old actor the kick in the ass he needed.

Since 1992 he's starred in 23 feature films, sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards and won four Grammy Awards.

His latest piece of Oscar-bait, the football drama Concussion, opens next week - on November 10th.
