Christina Aguilera & Matthew Rutler

2010 - current

While making Burlesque, Christina Aguilera first met her future fiance´ Matthew Rutler, who was a production assistant on the 2010 movie.

Shortly after filming wrapped, the pop diva announced she and her husband of five years, Jordan Bratman, were separating. In October 2010, the Beautiful singer filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences and sought joint legal and physical custody of their then two-year-old son, Max.

One month later, rumors swirled that she had already moved on after she was photographed trying to make a low-key exit from a restaurant with Matthew. While speculation claimed they started their affair while Christina was still married, a source told People: “After she and Jordan separated, the friendship turned romantic.” Soon after the pair stopped trying to hide their relationship and held hands while making their way to an American Music Awards rehearsal in November.

On the early morning of March 1, 2011, Christina and Matthew’s good times came to a screeching halt after they were arrested after getting pulled over for a DUI. While the singer was only detained for public intoxication, Matthew faced more serious charges since he was behind the wheel. A few weeks, all charges were dropped after it was revealed Rutler’s blood alcohol content was within the legal limit.

Over the next year, the couple would be routinely spotted on romantic dates and attending various red carpet events. Matthew also appeared to have developed a strong bond with her son, as they were often seen spending quality time together.

While happily dating Matthew, Christina also managed to maintain an amicable relationship with her ex-husband. In August 2013, the former couple made nice for the sake of their son and enjoyed a family day at the beach together.

Six months later, on February 13, 2014, Christina made things more official with Matthew as she announced their engagement on Twitter. “He asked and I said…,” the Dirrty singer wrote along with a snap of her diamond ring.

On the heels of his proposal, sources revealed Christina was pregnant with the couple’s first child. While the “Genie In a Bottle” crooner remained silent, she was often seen sporting what seemed to be a baby bump. In April, the couple finally confirmed the rumors by posting a photo with Matthew’s hand on her growing belly and included the message: “Baby loves NYC.” On August 16th, Christina gave birth to their daughter, Summer Rain.

Now busy with two kids, Christina recently revealed she and Matthew are in no hurry to get married. “I have my hands full and am not in a rush to set the date,” she said, before adding, “Our love is secure enough that we don’t need a wedding to prove our love and commitment.”
