Lady Gaga & Taylor Kinney

Lady Gaga & Taylor Kinney

2011 - current

Lady Gaga met Taylor Kinney on the set of her music video for the single “Yoü and I” in 2011. Kinney played Frankenstein to Gaga’s biomechanical mermaid in the fantasy-fueled clip, which also features the pair having sex and [SPOILER ALERT] getting married. It wasn’t long after the July shoot that rumors hit the web claiming their on-screen romance had led to “hooking up” in their alone time.

Rumors aside, Gaga did her best to keep the budding relationship close to her chest. In an interview dated November 29th, 2011, the singer admitted to having “an inability to know what happiness feels like with a man.”

Non-acknowledgment became the standard operating procedure as PDA gossip continued surrounding Gaga and her Vampire Diaries stud muffin. Almost infuriatingly, Gaga continued appearing in public with Kinney – including as his date to his brother’s Los Angeles wedding - even though they’d yet to announce their relationship officially.

Two years later, on November 9th, 2013, while promoting her third studio album “Artpop,” Gaga made several references to her unnamed boyfriend in a sit down with fans – even admitting to recently having had “really good sex” before revealing her dreams of having “tons of kids.” In the same interview, the “Applause” singer professed to being in a love affair with the city of Chicago – which just so happens to be where Kinney spent time filming his show Chicago Fire.

It wasn’t until Gaga sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on November 23rd, 2013 that she acknowledged Kinney by name. When asked about how their relationship worked, considering how different they must be, the pop star claimed her boyfriend was a “hidden weirdo.” She continued, “He is extremely strange, actually. We compliment each other’s weirdness. That’s actually one of the first things he said to me. It’s a Dr. Suess quote. You find in someone else a compatible weirdness.” Gaga even told a Ellen that the first time Taylor caught her attention was through an unscripted kiss he planted on her during the “Yoü and I” video shoot more than two years earlier.

Gaga and Kinney announced their engagement on February 16th, 2015. Along with a photo of her heart-shaped diamond ring, she captioned the Instagram message to her fans, “He gave me his heart on Valentine's Day, and I said YES!”

A wedding date has yet to be announced.
