Shakira-Gerard Pique

Shakira & Gerard Pique

2011 - current

In May 2010, Shakira met Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique when he was cast in her music video for “Waka Waka,” the official World Cup song that year. Despite working together, sparks didn’t initially fly as the singer was currently dating her longtime boyfriend Antonio De La Rua at the time.

Nearly a year later, in a January 2011, the “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker revealed she and Antonio had split the previous August, remained close and viewed the “separation as temporary.” Almost immediately, rumors began to link the songstress to Gerard after they were spotted holding hands in Barcelona. With speculation mounting, Shakira took to her Twitter account in March to confirm she and the handsome athlete were an item. She shared a snap with the message: “I present to you my sunshine.”

While they were often spotted out together in their private lives, it wasn’t until January 2012 that Shakira and Gerard made their red carpet debut as a couple at the FIFA Balloon d’Or Gala in Switzerland.

By September, the Colombian pop star found herself the subject of pregnancy rumors and once again took to social media to confirm the reports. In a Facebook post, she revealed: “Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!”

Four months later, on January 22, 2013, they welcomed their son Milan.

The following year, the blonde bombshell addressed why she and Gerard had yet to walk down the aisle. In an interview, she disclosed: “We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby. I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I'm ever going to get married, he's the one."

In June 2014, Shakira and Gerard collaborated for the second time when he made a cameo in the music video for her single “La La La (Brazil 2014),” which was once again chosen as an official song of the FIFA World Cup.

During the summer, reports claimed The Voice judge was pregnant with her second child. While being interviewed for Cosmopolitan En Espanol, Shakira confirmed the rumors by directly stating: “Yes, I am pregnant.”

On January 29, 2015, the happy couple added to their growing soccer team with the birth of their second son, Sasha.
